Learn how we make our pieces

SERVIN Coyoacán pieces have their own characteristics that make them different from the rest of high-temperature ceramics, but how do we make them? Here is a quick summary of how they are made.

In a mill and later in the workshop mixer, the paste is prepared, which from that moment has been called "SERVIN paste", because it contains characteristic ingredients that make it different from the rest of the high-temperature ceramics on the market.

The manufacture of the pieces is carried out in plaster molds where the SERVIN paste is poured and left to rest depending on the piece that is being worked, the larger the piece, the longer it will take in the mold.

After a certain time, the excess paste is emptied from the mold.

Once the piece has been formed inside the mold, the desired piece is obtained, to which edges are corrected and burrs are removed from the piece.

Subsequently, the piece is polished with the help of a sponge and water to give the piece a smooth finish.

The pieces are enameled with a glass base inside to prevent liquid seepage through the pores of the piece and also to give a more aesthetic finish to the touch and sight.

Decorated

Although our pieces maintain a naturalness in their decorations, some guide lines with a pencil should be drawn on a turret to orient the decorations throughout the piece.

The edges are marked with brushes of natural hair in cobalt blue and then, it goes on to the decoration of the pieces that with the help of knobs the designs are created on the piece and later the application of color.

It is in this step where SERVIN pieces acquire the most important characteristic, each piece is UNIQUE in its decorations.

This is achieved since the designs are created directly on the piece, no drawings are traced, pieces or patterns are not generated. Each piece is different from the rest.

The piece that is decorated reflects what is felt as inspiration and even the mood, there is a decorator-piece connection, making it more special.

The combination of colors is carried out in the same way as the profiling of the pieces.

Baked

By this time, the piece is already ready, it only remains to put it in the oven for approximately 8 hours over direct heat at a temperature of 1240 ° C, thus being a high-temperature ceramic.

Inside the kiln and at that temperature, the pieces acquire the characteristic relief of the SERVIN Coyoacán Ceramic.

When baked at that temperature and by the "SERVIN paste", the ceramic is lead free.

Final score

After the baking time, the pieces are ready.

They go to the observation area (if there are breaks or defects) in order to make them available to the public.

Although the process is not short, it takes many hours and weeks of manufacture since we put all our dedication to each piece we make.

On average, a SERVIN Coyoacán piece has an average of 1 month of elaboration.

We can highlight that:

All pieces are handcrafted and decorated and each piece is unique, so no two cups will be the same in the whole world.
